San Francisco Carnaval Contingent 2006

Our Mission Housing Contingent in the Caribbean category won second prize in dance, 2nd in overall appearance, 2nd in Carnaval spirit, andtied for 2nd in creativity & authenticity. For the first-time ever, popular Cuban dance instructor and choreographer Ramon Ramos Alayo will be leading a Carnaval contingent in this year's annual extravaganza taking place Sunday, May 28 in San Francisco's Mission District.

We welcome you, lovers of Cuban dance, to join us for the first in a series of intensive weekly rehearsals with Ramon and his CubaCaribe dance faculty on:

Sundays, March 12, 19, 26

1:30pm - 4:30pm $5 for the workout & rehearsal

Dancers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. Dancer with considerable experience an those who have danced with Ramon before can make a big difference in the quality of our rehearsals and in our dance and music presentation in the Carnaval Parade. In the Carnaval parade we will dance both live drumming and recorded music.

Dress causally with soft shoes or sneakers prepared for a vigorous workout followed by a rehearsal of our Carnav choreoalgraphy. Bring water. No food please.

The official sponsor of Ramon's Contingent is the Mission Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit housing organization active in the Mission since 1971.

MHDC will have a float which will carry a visual expression of out Contingent's theme of Rebirth & Rejuvenation, on the occasion of the San Francisco's recovery from the Great Earthquake of 1906 and MHDC's reopening of Valencia Gardens housing this summer.

The overall them of this year's Carnaval is "Land of Childhood Dreams".
